Repost a Reel on Instagram

Everyone is posting Instagram reels – yourself included. But even though you spend a lot of time creating reels, sometimes, they never receive the engagement that they deserve. Or, you may find a reel that you know your audience will like and want to share it with them.

What can you do?

We’re going to explain exactly how to repost a reel on Instagram and the steps that you need to take along the way. You’ll need your phone and the app to follow along, so be sure you have it next to you so that you can begin reposting.

How to Repost a Reel on Instagram From Someone Else

Sometimes, you’ll find inspiring reels that you wish your followers could see. If you go to the creator’s reels tab, you can find the reel that you want to repost and do the following:

Repost Instagram Reel

  • Tap on the reel.
  • Tap the arrow icon on the bottom right.
  • Navigate to Add to story.

And the reel you like will show up on your story. It’s a fast and simple way to promote your favorite creator.

You can also do a few other things to share reels:

Download Instagram Reel

  • Tap on the reel.
  • Go to the Arrow > Download.

And now you’ve downloaded a reel that someone else posted. You can only download reels from public accounts and cannot use them for commercial use. You can then repost the reel on your own account.

How to Repost a Reel on Instagram That You Made

Instagram changed the Download button that was in place just a year or so ago, but it’s still there exactly where it was on the last section. You can start by tapping on your reel. Go to the arrow icon > Download.

You can also opt to reshare the reel to your story, which is a smart choice for promoting reels that you know should have more engagment but do not.

Remixing Reels

If you want to remix your reel, you can do so by doing the following:👇

Remixing Instagram Reels

  • Open the reel
  • Tap the three dots on the bottom right.
  • Tap Remix.

You can remix using a template or a new format that you’ve been curious to try. But there are times when you may want to share reels that you can’t easily download, and this is an option with the right tools.

Wait. I Want to Share Reels That I Can’t Download

Creators may block the option to download or repost a reel on Instagram. If you follow the steps above and can’t seem to locate the Download option, the reel is likely blocked from being downloaded.

And for some creators, this feature is one that makes sense to block because they don’t want someone to steal their hard work and make it their own.

1. iPhone Users

iPhone Users Recording

As an iPhone user, you can also “download reels” by using the phone’s screen capture option. You’ll swipe up on your phone and hit the Record button. Open the app and the reel you want to record and let it play.

Once done, stop the recording, edit it to cut out the screen and anything that isn’t the reel, and find it in your camera roll.

2. Repost App for iPhone

Repost App

Repost is an app that is easy to use and offers a streamlined way to repost your reels. You can download the app and see how easy it is to use.

3. Android

Android Users

Android users also have the option to Screen Record by swiping down from the top of the screen and clicking on the recorder icon. You can then follow the same steps in the iPhone section to capture the screen when the reel is playing.

4. AhaSave App for Android

AhaSave App

AhaSave is very similar to the Repost app and makes it easier for you to repost your reels. You can simply copy the reels link and paste it into the app to make this work. You can do this by:

  • Opening the reel
  • Tapping the arrow on the bottom right
  • Tapping on copy link

Once you do this, you’ll download the reel and can reupload it. We do want to caution you against using any of these techniques for reusing someone else’s reel for commercial use because it is against copyright laws and you can get in trouble.

Why Should You Repost Reels on Instagram?

You might be wondering why? If a reel does well once or doesn’t do well, it’s an asset that you want to maximize. Reposting your Instagram reel will do a few things for you:

  • Increase Engagement: Perhaps you posted the reel at a less-than-optimal time and it didn’t receive many likes. You can try your hand at reposting the reel to increase engagement. Try and find the optimal time for reposting based on your audience, but between 10am and 4pm is often a good option.
  • Remix Reels: Reusing old reels to make something new is always a great way to squeeze more likes out of your reels. Any time that you can make new posts, especially out of something old, it’s worth the effort to remix content.
  • Save Time: Lacking time to create new reels is the bane of all creators. It’s never easy to come up with great ideas, but with reposting, you can use your creativity of the past to engage the followers of today.

Now that you know how to repost a reel on instagram, it’s worth trying it out on your own. You’ll be shocked by how many creators make it easy to download their reels and you can then repost them on your own profile.

But you want to give the original creators a shoutout and credit any time you use their reels.

Why?

If the person is upset that you reposted their content, they can tarnish your name if you don’t credit them. Reports may also be made to Meta about you reusing someone else’s reels, which is only a problem when you download and re-upload them.

Repost responsibly and you’ll avoid any trouble along the way.
